Election: McKenzie School District bond for new school up for approval

McKenzie School District is asking residents to approve a bond measure for school building upgrades in the May 18 Special Election.  The bond measure asks voters for $15. 2 million to be repaid over 25 years to fund projects such as a complete rebuild of the elementary school, retrofitting schools to be earthquake-safe, and improvements to outdated HVAC and security systems. If voters approve the bond measure, the district also will get $4 million in a matching state grant through the Oregon School Capital Improvement program. Homeowners would see an increase of approximately $1.92 per $1,000 of assessed property value, according to the district s information sheet. For a $210,174 house this would be about $404 a year.
