BLUE RIVER, Ore. Members of the McKenzie School District s board said they will now have to find money elsewhere in their budget for key projects after a $15,215,000 bond failed in the May election.
A significant portion of that funding would have gone towards building a new elementary school. It doesn t meet earthquake standards, there s lead, there s radon, some issues that have to be addressed immediately, school board member Elaine Bryson said about the current elementary school.

As of noon Tuesday, the Lane County voter turnout was 21.32%, with 58,032 ballots counted.
The first round of Lane County May 18 Special Election unofficial results were released a little after 8 p.m. Tuesday with 56,969 ballots counted in the first round.
The Register-Guard is updating results Tuesday night for the ballot measures and contested candidate races as they are released.

Lane County Special Election results
In unofficial results, a levy to renew funding for OSU Lane County Extension has been approved by voters in Tuesday s special election. A levy to fund the Lane Fire Authority is also passing.
A measure to create a special law enforcement district in the Mohawk Valley looks too close to call as of Tuesday night with 51% against it and 48% in favor.
And a bond for the McKenzie School District looks to be in question with 57% voting no.

#20-318 - Mohawk Valley Law Enforcement District
The early results show Mohawk Valley residents voting narrowly against adding a full-time resident deputy to their region from the Lane County Sheriff’s Office.
Unofficial election results show 637 people, or about 56%, voting against adding the deputy position, and 573 people, 47%, voting for.
Lane County Sheriff Cliff Harrold said he thinks the measure would provide improved service for residents of the valley, but he didn t rule out that the outcome could change given how close the votes are. I think it would have, or would if it still happens, provide a good level of service for folks out there, Harrold said. But if it s something the community has decided, Nope we re fine with the level of service we have today, that s how our system is set up.
