The world of virtual reality (VR) isn’t as bewildering as it once was but that doesn’t mean to say those new to the technology don’t still need a helping hand in the right direction. With the sales success of Oculus Quest 2, Facebook has decided now’s a good time to launch a new series of public interactive presentations and Q&A sessions called Quest Demos.
Hosted by ‘Oculus product experts’, the presentations will be held over Zoom with attendees shown some of the key features of Oculus Quest 2 with the presenters highlighting some of their favourite apps and videogames – so a quick plug for developers there. Guests will also move from Zoom into the headset to be given further advice.

Facebook has been rolling out the updates for the Oculus Quest platform, adding new Voice Commands, Multi-User Accounts and App sharing to name a few. According to its roadmap for the platform, it looks like experimental support for a 120Hz refresh mode could be arriving this month.
Existence of the mode was first teased by Andrew Bosworth, Head of Facebook Reality Labs in one of his regular Q&A sessions on Instagram. Now the feature has appeared via Oculus’ developer roadmap, which indicates a ‘medium’ chance of a 120Hz refresh rate appearing in March. This would only apply to the Oculus Quest 2 headset.

Facebook is continuing to make it easier to use the Oculus Quest platform without the need for controllers. The hand tracking is improving in the menu and can even be used in more apps, whilst voice commands off quick access to a variety of features. Now, that latter option is being taken a step further with the “Hey Facebook” wake word.
