Monday is yet another first day of school for Jefferson County Public Schools.
Middle and high schools will reopen to in-person learning, welcoming back more than 15,000 students whose last names start with A through K. The second half of the alphabet will start back on Thursday.
They will join thousands of younger students who began returning to classrooms on March 17, as Kentucky s largest district nears the end of its phased school restart.
About two-thirds of the more than 96,000-student district will have been inside a classroom by the end of the week. The remaining students opted to continue virtual learning because of the pandemic.

In states such as Georgia and Arizona, there are fierce partisan battles going on right now over voting proposals. But in Kentucky s Republican-led legislature, a bill to boost voter access and election security has gotten widespread support from both parties.
The legislation is now at the Senate after passing the House 93-4 late last month.
The proposal would preserve some of the policies Kentucky implemented last year to ensure voter access during the coronavirus pandemic, including a short period during which people can vote early, and allowing people to cure mail-in ballots that were improperly signed.
