The Pirates (7-4, 4-1 Big East) won six of seven games to close out 2020 and now look ahead to a tough January schedule.
Here are five observations as the Pirates move forward.
‘MAMU’ ROARS BACK WITH STRONG GAME
Senior forward Sandro Mamukelashvili was “burnt out” heading into the holiday break, Pirates coach Kevin Willard said after “Mamu” managed just two points, three bounds and two assists in the Dec. 23 win over Georgetown.

Seton Hall will head into the holiday break after winning five of its last six games, including a 78-67 rout of Georgetown on Wednesday that was never as close as the final score indicates.
On a day when Sandro Mamukelashvili was scoreless until about seven minutes remaining, Myles Cale went off for a career-high 30 points and Jared Rhoden poured in a career-high-tying 26 points with a career-best 12 rebounds. Seton Hall is 6-4 overall, 3-1 in the Big East heading into a Dec. 30 tilt at No. 22 Xavier.

Myles Cale and Jared Rhoden got going early, Ike Obiagu had a block party and Seton Hall overcame a poor scoring game from star Sandro Mamukelashvili to roll over Georgetown in their final game before the holiday break.
Cale went off for a career-high 30 points on 10-of-16 shooting and Rhoden tied his career-best with 26 points and a career-high 12 rebounds as the Pirates prevailed, 78-67, at Prudential Center. Seton Hall improved to 6-4, 3-1 in the Big East heading into the holidays. Cale, who shot 5-of-9 from deep, had a previous career-high of 23.

‘Mamu’ takes the blame
Sandro Mamukelashvili entered as the Big East’s third-leading scorer at 20 points per game, but had just three points at the half when Seton Hall led 40-38. He finished with 20 points, six rebounds and six assists but blamed himself for not being more aggressive earlier.

With the Seton Hall men’s basketball team on a four-game win streak, their good fortunes were bound to run dry soon. That heartbreaking reality check came Sunday night as the Pirates suffered their first home loss of the season to the Providence Friars. Providence locked down Sandro Mamukelashvili for most of regulation time in this game, and they gave Seton Hall one of their most difficult games of the season in this back-and-forth home loss.
