With temperatures plunging, warming centers Downtown are busy As overnight temperatures have plunged into single digits recently, a new approach has been helping homeless people stay warm Downtown. In its first week of operation in mid-December, there were about 15 people taking advantage of warming centers operated by a collaboration between Downtown churches and Columbus Metropolitan Library. Since then, about 100 regular visitors have received services at Trinity Episcopal Church, First Congregational Church, and Broad Street United Methodist Church, along with the Main Library Downtown. COVID-19 guidelines restrict annual community Christmas dinners in Harrison County, West Virginia

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WV News) — The uptick in COVID-19 cases in Harrison County has curtailed the opportunity for many families to get together this Christmas, and it also has affected the number of free holiday dinners that will be offered. The annual Christmas Day dinner at Christ Church United Methodist in Adamston will not be held after organizer Melodie Nichols moved from the area earlier this year. The church’s aging population was not able to continue the event, she said, but volunteers were urged to help with the Clarksburg Mission’s dinner. “It’s going to be very different this year, but I hope that neighbors take care of neighbors,” Nichols said.
