Photo by Steve Francis This promises to be an exciting week for fishing, no matter what species of fish you hope to catch. The trout stocking program is finishing up an intensive stocking program this week, warm summer-like temperatures beckon all to the outdoors, and the trophy striped bass season begins in portions of the Chesapeake Bay May 1.  Starting Saturday, the Chesapeake Bay from Brewerton Channel to the Virginia state line, excluding all bays, sounds, tributaries, creeks and rivers, except Tangier Sound and Pocomoke Sound, opens up to striped bass fishing for fish 35 inches or larger, with a one fish per person per day creel limit. 

Teen from Harford County breaks state record with big fallfish

Updated: 1:19 PM EDT Apr 26, 2021 The Maryland Department of Natural Resources recognized a Harford County teenager as a new state record holder for fallfish in the nontidal division.Maxwell Diegel, 13, caught the 2-pound, 14-ounce fallfish on April 19 while fishing in Broad Creek, his local stream. Maxwell was fishing from shore with corn and worms when he snagged his record catch. I knew I had something big when the rod bent in half, Maxwell said in a statement released by the DNR.Maxwell s catch broke the previous state record fallfish of 2 pounds, 7 ounces caught by Adam Aghion in 2019.The fallfish weight was officially certified by Conrad s Crabs and Seafood in Bel Air, and a DNR biologist confirmed the catch.After Maxwell realized he had a new state record, he danced around and did a celebration, and said the catch even led to a summer job opportunity at the seafood market that weighed the fish.The DNR maintains state records for sport fish in four divisions Atl

DelDOT announces rehabilitation of Bridge over Broad Creek

47abc April 14, 2021 LAUREL, Del. – DelDOT has announced that construction will begin on Monday, April 19th, at the bridge over Broad Creek on Delaware Avenue. We’re told the project involved the replacement of the existing superstructure in-kind. The superstructure replacement includes prestressed beams, beam bearing pads, concrete barriers, sidewalks, and the asphalt riding surface. The proposed widtyh and layout of the bridge and roadway will remain approximately the same as existing conditions after construction is complete. The work is anticipated to be complete by early September, pending weather.
