Dundalk IT allocated almost €2m for expansion of apprenticeships

Almost €2 million has been allocated to the Dundalk Institute of Technology for the expansion of apprenticeships.
Local Fine Gael TD Fergus O’Dowd welcomed news yesterday from the Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, Simon Harris that €1.95 million has been allocated to the DkIT to expand its apprenticeship capacity in the North East.
“The news on this €1.95m confirmed to me is really positive for the North East and will allow more people to stay and study in the region whilst they complete their trade apprenticeships , Deputy O Dowd said.

A $6 million investment will create 400 more jobs for council apprentices and trainees across regional Queensland through Skilling Queenslanders for Work (SQW).
Minister Training and Skills Development Di Farmer met with Winton Shire Councilâs current First Start trainees and two former First Start trainees who have secured permanent jobs with the councilâs child care centre.
âSince 2015-16 the State Government has invested $165,000 in the First Start program with Winton Shire Council,â Ms Farmer said.
Mayor of Winton Shire Council Gavin Baskett said that the investment went a long way in supporting the Winton community.
âThis funding has helped the Council put on 10 apprentices and trainees over the last six years,â Mr Baskett said.
Harland & Wolff Launch Apprenticeship Scheme Across All Sites

H&W has announced a 2021 Apprenticeship Scheme which is now open for applications.

Shipyard Harland & Wolff has launched an apprenticeship scheme that is available across all of their four sites either side of the North Channel and the Irish Sea.
The scheme is applicable to H&W Appledore, Arnish, Belfast and Methil, with the first intake of apprentices arriving on site in September 2021.
Applications will close at 5pm 21 May 2021.
To apply, prospective employees must complete the application form which can be found under the Apprentices page on the Harland & Wolff website. At this time, CVs will not be considered.

Applications for mining and construction support company Hastings Deering’s 2022 apprenticeship intake open on Monday with 40 positions up for grabs.
There are five trades on offer across nine Hastings Deering workshops including Mackay, Rockhampton, Brisbane, Toowoomba, Townsville, Cairns, Mt Isa, Darwin and Alice Springs.
Hastings Deering’s general manager-people and culture Vincent Cosgrove said applications for the apprenticeship program continued to be highly sought after with record numbers year after year.
“Our apprentices have many career pathways: from mining and construction machinery to marine engines – Cat machines are diverse in mechanics as in size,” Mr Cosgrove said.
