The Chairperson of the Working Party on the Accession of Iraq to the
World Trade Organization (WTO), Ambassador Omar Hilale (Morocco), visited Geneva on 16-18 June.
Building on his earlier visits, the purpose of the Chairperson s meetings in Geneva was to identify steps and mobilise support in relaunching Iraq s accession process which had been challenging due to the security situation in the country.
During his visit, the Chairperson met with: Iraq s new Ambassador Abdul-Karim Hashim Mostafa in Geneva; WTO Director-General, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and Deputy Director-General Zhang Xiangchen; the Executive Director of the
International Trade Centre (ITC), Ms. Pamela Coke-Hamilton, and Acting Secretary-General of the
The Network is a public-sector led entity, which will work in partnership with the ECOWAS Commission to promote goods made in West Africa.
ECOWAS Commissioner for Trade, Customs and Free Movement, Tei Konzi, who represented the President of the ECOWAS Commission, Jean-Claude Kassi Brou, stressed the importance of the Trade Promotion Organisations in accessing new markets and establishing linkages between local and international businesses.
On her part, the Executive Director of the International Trade Centre, Pamela Coke-Hamilton emphasised the milestone West Africa has achieved with the establishment of the ECOWAS TPO Network.
“As a network you can learn from each other, support growth into each other’s markets, invest in shared information assets, and amplify the voice of TPOs and the private sector as champions of the Africa of tomorrow,” said Ms. Coke-Hamilton.

The impact of climate change is threatening to cause pandemic-scale disruption to small businesses around the world.
Small businesses make up more than half of the global workforce and are 2.5 times more likely to go under than larger firms.
International Trade Centre (ITC) has started warning the COVID-19 shocks for small businesses.
Executive Director of ITC, Pamela Coke-Hamilton, says the pandemic has shown that the resilience of businesses matter, adding that, ”going green is a survival imperative; the longer firms take to act, the higher the costs become.”
