Drive-In event Springfield - Foster Memorial Church is holding a “Drive-In” event on Saturday, May 8 from 1 to 3 p.m. in the church’s back parking lot. They will be collecting non-perishable food for the Open Pantry. There will also be a Drawing/Raffle of Gift Baskets with a Spring focus; proceeds will go to the church’s ongoing ministries. Raffle tickets will also be available at the event. .

Springfield offers COVID vaccines Friday at Greenleaf Community Center in Sixteen Acres Updated Apr 28, 2021; SPRINGFIELD The city is providing the Johnson & Johnson coronavirus vaccine on Friday at the Greenleaf Community Center in Sixteen Acres as part of its neighborhood outreach program. Mayor Domenic J. Sarno and Health and Human Services Commissioner Helen Caulton-Harris announced that appointments can be made through the city’s website for the COVID-19 vaccination site, also known as the Clodo Concepcion Community Center. The center is at 1187½ Parker St., behind the Sixteen Acres Library. “These neighborhood vaccination sites continue my administration’s commitment to making the COVID-19 vaccine as readily available to our residents as possible,” Sarno said in a statement.

Agawam’s Jack Coughlin, left paralyzed after being struck while picking up trash, awarded the Pat Franklin Courageous Spirit Award Updated Mar 15, 2021; Facebook Share Jack Coughlin’s campaign against litter, particularly “nip” liquor bottles, has gained national recognition, even as he remains confined to a hospital bed. On Thursday, Coughlin was awarded the Pat Franklin Courageous Spirit Award from the Container Recycling Institute, a California-based nonprofit. He was paralyzed in January after being struck by a car while picking up roadside trash in Agawam. Coughlin, who turned 78 in the days after the collision, was well-known in town for walking the streets every day, picking up litter. He was also an activist for environmental and sportsmen’s causes, and one of the leaders in efforts to improve the Medina Street boat ramp in Chicopee. While raising a family in Springfield, Coughlin had also been active in neighborhood associations in East Forest Park and Sixtee
