The book, compiled by Lynn Kloter Fahy for the Ellington Historical Society, was first published in 2005, and contains 128 pages of amazing photos and stories of the small town formerly known as the Great Marsh. It may be purchased from the Nellie McKnight Museum store here. On page 105, we find an undated postcard depicting Ellington Town Hall at 55 Main Street. It was designed early in the 20th century by Ellington native J. Henry McCray, who also produced architecture for the adjacent Center School.

From 1825 to 1828, it was the first home of the Fayette Lodge No. 69 A.F. and A.M. The first post office in Ellington Center was established here in 1822; William Morgan was the initial postmaster.

John Lanz, an immigrant from Canton Bern, Switzerland, purchased 42 acres of land for $1,000 in August 1893 to become the first Swiss farmer in Ellington. The farm was known for having the tallest silo in town.

This photo of property at the corner of Somers and Meadowbrook roads was taken in 1904. According to Ellington land records, the structure was built in 1820. Pictured are Gertrude, Clara and Flora Tuttle, whose dad Frank bought the house in 1898.
