Punjab imposes night curfew to check COVID surge; coaching centres, gyms, bars, cinemas shut till April 30

Punjab has announced a slew of new measures to check the spread of coronavirus cases in the state. After a meeting with experts, Chief Minister Amarinder Singh said his government has decided to impose night curfew throughout the state from 8 PM to 5 AM. He did not mention a date for lifting the night curfew, which means it will remain into effect till next notice.

New Delhi: The high level multi-disciplinary public health teams which were deployed to 50 districts across Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and Punjab in view of the recent very large numbers of daily new COVID-19 cases, have stated flaws in the handling of the coronavirus situation in the respective states.
The teams were rushed to 30 districts of Maharashtra, 11 districts of Chhattisgarh and 9 districts of Punjab to assist the state health department and local authorities in COVID-19 surveillance, control and containment measures.

Punjab: Night curfew imposed in Jalandhar amid surge in Covid cases
Night curfew will be enforced in Punjab s Jalandhar from Saturday (March 6) till further notice, amid the recent surge in coronavirus cases in the district. The curfew will remain in place in the district between 11 pm and 5 am, said Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori.Â
Jalandhar on Friday had reported a maximum of 134 fresh cases in the state. There are a total of 856 active cases in Jalandhar as of now, according to a medical bulletin.
Punjab has been witnessing a surge in the number of COVID-19 cases for nearly four weeks. Last month, the Punjab government had authorised deputy commissioners (DCs) to impose night curfew in coronavirus hotspots in their districts if needed.Â
