Celeste, some of its developers were working on a procedurally generated Metroidvania project titled
Skytorn. This was announced back in 2016 with a release window for the following year. On Saturday however, the team in a statement with Medium announced the cancellation of the project.
Noel Berry, lead programmer for
Skytorn, noted that one of the main reasons for the cancellation of the game was that the team never found a solution to some major design problems that were at the game’s core. It’s noted that a lot of these spiked as a result of the Metroidvania being procedurally generated.
