Celeste was one of the most acclaimed games of 2018, but what you may not have known is that the tightly designed platformer was an expanded version of a smaller project developed in four days at a game jam. Maddy Thorson and Noel Berry created the original
Celeste for the Pico-8 platform, and now that version has a sequel called
Celeste 2: Lani’s Trek.

Celeste Classic, the original version of
Celeste, has been given a sequel, reportedly developed over a three-day period.
The precursor to
Celeste seen on Xbox Game Pass, which has come to be known as
Celeste Classic, was a more simplistic game. Built with the Pico-8 engine and released in 2016, this version served as an initial outing for Madeline and Mount Celeste.
Extremely OK Games announced
Celeste 2: Laniâs Trek on programmer Noel Berryâs Twitter account, claiming the game only took three days to make. The title alludes to new protagonist Lani, who takes over from Madeline and scales the mountain.

Released back in 2018, Celeste was a beloved indie-platformer that quickly won over the hearts of players. Developed by Maddy Thorson and Noel Berry, this platform gained popularity due to its challenging levels, all hooked by an emotional story. One of the best releases of 2018, Celeste is coming up on its third anniversary at the end of this month. A celebration livestream will be taking place to commemorate the milestone, and the developers will be heavily involved.
Streamer AChocolateOrange posted to their Twitter account on January 15 to share news of the stream. On January 25 at 10 a.m. PT/1 p.m. ET, the three-year anniversary celebration stream will go down live on the CelesteCommunity Twitch channel.
