Blackburn magistrates were told that Jamie Lee Cunliffe was a troubled individual who had been dealt a tough hand in life. Cunliffe, 31, of the Salvation Army, Heaton Street, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to assaulting an emergency worker. He was remanded on bail until May 11 for the preparation of a pre-sentence report. Blackburn magistrates heard Ayaz Mohammed, who was behind the wheel of the VW Golf, reversed slightly and then mounted the pavement, ignoring requests from the officer to stop. Mohammed, 35, of Azalea Road, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to drug driving, failing to stop for a police officer and driving other than in accordance with a licence. He was made subject to a community order for 12 months with 15 days rehabilitation activity requirement and 160 hours unpaid work. He was banned from driving for 36 months and ordered to pay £85 costs and £95 victim surcharge.

Grane Road crash driver who had been smoking cannabis claimed he hit a puddle

A MAN whose car crashed off the Grane Road and ended up in a field was later found to be over the limit for cannabis. Blackburn magistrates heard Fayaz Waka was taken to hospital with head and other injuries following the crash close to the Grey Mare pub. Waka, 22, of Kirkland Close, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to drug driving, driving other than in accordance with a licence and without insurance. He was fined £200 with £85 costs and £34 victim surcharge and banned from driving for two years. Samantha Hayward, prosecuting, said the road traffic accident happened at 8pm and when police arrived Waka and his passenger were still in the car which was in a field.
