Saugatuck Schools holds groundbreaking ceremony at Douglas Elementary DOUGLAS  A project years in the making at Douglas Elementary School had its official opening ceremony Thursday evening.  While the construction at DES stemming from Saugatuck Public Schools’ 2020 bond began in April, district administration, school board members and community members gathered for a groundbreaking ceremony at the school May 20.  “After years of planning, we are excited to finally begin extensive renovations at DES,” Superintendent Tim Travis said. “We have many people to thank for making this investment in the future of the district’s students, including the community members who voted for the passage of a $35.6 million bond for these renovations and significant improvements to Saugatuck Middle School and High School.”
