Modi flags off government’s initiative to mark 75 years of independence Prime minister launches ‘padyatra’ to commemorate Gandhi’s Dandi March
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday launched Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav , the government s initiative to mark 75 years of India s Independence.
Modi said the 75th anniversary celebrations will continue till August 15, 2023, adding conscious efforts have been made in the last six years to preserve the history of unsung heroes of the country.
The prime minister flagged off a
padyatra (foot march) from Sabarmati Ashram to commemorate Mahatma Gandhi s Dandi march.
The padyatra is being undertaken by 81 marchers from Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad to Dandi in Navsari, a journey of 386 km. The march will end after 25 days, on April 5.
PM said the 75th-anniversary celebrations will continue till August 15, 2023, adding "conscious efforts" have been made in the last six years to preserve the history of unsung heroes of the country.

The Central government is gearing up for elaborate celebrations to mark 75 years of India’s independence.
The Information & Broadcasting Ministry said that “
Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav” would commence 75 weeks prior to Independence Day 2022 and would continue till Independence Day 2023.
“The event would be kicked off with a 25-day celebration, beginning March 12, 2021 (anniversary of launch of the Dandi March) with the launch of opening ceremony by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Gujarat and concluding on April 5, 2021 (conclusion of Dandi March),” the official statement added.
