NEWARK, NJ A partnership formed this week between the Newark Public Schools District and The New School’s Parsons School of Design will establish a curriculum guided by sustainability, innovation and inclusivity for students attending the Newark School of Fashion & Design this fall.
The partnership is aimed to leverage Parsons’ education model for students at the Newark school in grades 9 through 12. By teaming up with Parsons, its model will lead the development and design for courses at the Newark school, while also creating a framework for the four-year curriculum.

NEWARK, NJ Less than a quarter of Newark residents are fully vaccinated, however, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Marcia Fudge said the Biden-Harris administration is determined to raise those numbers.
Joined by local health professionals and area officials, Fudge visited Wynona Lipman Gardens on Thursday to attend a mobile pop-up clinic hosted by Saint James Health. Aimed to increase accessibility to the city’s most underserved communities, pop-up clinics have been one of the city’s most consistent methods to provide access rather than relying on larger vaccination sites.
As of May 6, more than 100 million U.S. citizens have been fully vaccinated, but the numbers in so many underserved communities throughout the country like Newark tell a different story. NEWARK, NJ When Rutgers University-Newark student Christelle Louis graduates this month, she will have a diploma in one hand and a new job in the other.
Once Louis, 22, receives her bachelor’s degree in marketing supply chain management from Rutgers-Newark, she will join the Amazon Web Services (AWS) team right away in June thanks to the career prep she gained through local nonprofit, Braven-Newark.
The nonprofit helps students like Louis transition from college into careers by partnering with universities and employers, providing them with the skills, experiences and networks aimed to land a strong first job and get on a path to economic freedom.

NEWARK, NJ The Newark Board of Education reorganization meeting on Tuesday was deemed “historic” by district officials. Dawn Haynes was appointed as president, she is the first Muslim woman who wears a hijab to lead a school board in New Jersey. In addition, Haynes and Asia Norton were re-elected to a board with their locally-elected colleagues as well after years of being under state control.

NEWARK, NJ The missing 15-year-old daughter of a Newark anti-violence community activist was found dead in South Carolina on Thursday, authorities announced.
Sanaa Amenhotep was kidnapped and killed after leaving her home in South Carolina, local sheriff Leon Lott said during a Thursday press conference. After the teen was reported missing from her home on April 5, her body was found the night of April 28 in the woods off in Lexington County, South Carolina, authorities said.
Following the announcement of her death, Newark officials and community leaders offered their condolences to the teen’s family and her father, Sharif Malik Amenhotep, a prominent social justice advocate in the city.
