Boat trips begin again as canal centre reopens

A charity that teaches people about the history of canals is now offering boat trips again. Rickmansworth Waterways Trust has reopened Batchworth Lock following months of Covid-19 restrictions and is now able to offer trips on the trust’s Pride of Batchworth canal boat. The recently completed education centre, located between the canal and the River Colne, is also now open for business. Currently, The Pride is able to take up to six passengers from the same social bubble for a 40-minute trip which will take them as far as Stockers Lock and back. The boat is also available to hire for anything from two to six hours, and is fitted out with a small kitchen, tea and coffee-making facilities, indoor and outdoor seats, and a toilet.

Maritime Groups Pleased With WRDA 2020

That’s one way to sum up the rather tortuous process that led to the passage of the Water Resources Development Act of 2020 (WRDA). For the first time WRDA (usually reauthorized every two years) was not enacted as its own legislative bill. This time it was rolled into the massive government 2021 omnibus budget bill, the ‘‘Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2021,’’ signed into law on December 27. Still, the WRDA text itself, with critical waterways and harbor programs and policies, survived mostly intact, i.e., as developed in previous months by House and Senate transportation committees.
