If teachers or coaches or anyone working with children had any doubt, a provincial court judge on Thursday made it clear there are boundaries that can t be crossed. Local shop teacher Andrew Coates pleaded guilty to assault for an incident that took place in November last year. The assault was a simple push, along with a verbal berating of a Grade 9 student at SKSS. The incident occurred after the teacher and student crossed paths in the parking lot that morning. Something was said between the two, or a gesture was made, that caused the teacher to take offence. In his decision, Judge Stephen Harrison related that the teacher later confronted his student, in front of the class, for an expected apology of some kind. When it didn t come, he lost his temper and pushed the student back a few steps.
