The Scott Fire Department has released the name of the person killed during a fire over the weekend in Scott.
Fire Chief Chad Sonnier identified the person who died in the fire at Scottsdale Street apartment complex as 19-year-old Ja vante Rideaux.
Sonnier says his firefighters were called to the apartment complex at about 12:44 a.m. Sunday.
They were told by neighbors that a person, who had a disability, was still inside the fourplex, which was burning. Firefighters went inside and found the person, identified as Rideaux in a bedroom. Rideaux died from smoke inhalation, Sonnier says.

SCOTT â One person has died in a fire that started early Sunday.
Scott Fire Chief Chad Sonnier says his firefighters were called to the Scottsdale Street apartment complex at about 12:44 a.m. Sunday.
They were told by neighbors that an 18-year-old person, who had a disability, was still inside the fourplex, which was burning. Firefighters went inside and found the person in a bedroom. They already were dead from smoke inhalation, Sonnier says. I see him all the time. Super nice boy. Does not let being in a wheel chair stop him. He is all over the place. So sad some one had to lose their life Jamie Cormier, a neighbor, said.

Fire officials say space heaters caused a trailer fire Friday in Duson.
The Duson Fire Department was dispatched to the 500 block of Fifth Street for a residential fire after a caller advised they heard an explosion and their trailer was on fire.
Firefighters deployed pre-connected hand lines and began safely extinguishing the fire. The city s fire chief arrived on scene and advised responding units of water shuttling if needed due to the low water storage capacity in the town.

A large offshore survey boat sustained major fire damage Saturday during a commercial fire in Scott.
Firefighters responded at 6:15 p.m. to the fire in the 200 block of Jacob s Run. Once there, firefighters observed heavy smoke emitting from a large commercial building.
Responders forced entry into the structure and located the offshore survey boat on fire. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the boat before it spread to the building.
The fire was determined to be accidental in nature, caused by electrical short.
