PENAMPANG: Many motorists and residents here were left stranded after several hours of incessant rain since Wednesday evening inundated at least 12 localities in the district.
A brief power outage was reported in Kg Panglima Banting and its surrounding areas with Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd issuing a notice via Short Messaging System informing of an emergency power shutdown to make way for repair works on a damaged cable connection at 9.05pm on Wednesday. Power supply was restored at 9.33pm.
The rain accompanied by strong winds at 2am also left many fallen branches and uprooted trees in several areas here and Kota Kinabalu. The floods also resulted in water supply disruption in several areas in Penampang and Kota Kinabalu on Thursday.

According to the Sabah Chief Minister, who ordered the setting up of the task force, the matter was a welcome development in view of Ramadan.
He said this after visiting the Universiti Apartment 1 booster pump station on Wednesday (Apr 21).
On April 12, Hajiji made the directive to expedite the solution for water problems, which grew worse in February, affecting thousands of consumers in residential areas in Sepanggar, as well as Universiti Malaysia Sabah, and Hospital Likas.
Among the steps taken by the task force include sending water tankers to the affected areas as a short-term measure, while medium term measures include checking the water distribution system valves in Sepanggar and in the neighbouring Tuaran district.

Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah state government and the related agencies have suffered losses of over RM450 million following water and electricity supply thefts since 2010, the State Legislative Assembly was told today.
Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin (BN-Lamag) said of the total, RM342 million was losses due to water supply illegal connections while the rest involved electricity supply theft.
According to the Sabah Works Minister electricity theft was largely due to illegal connections especially at squatter areas resulting in RM90 million in losses, while 3,408 cases of meter tampering resulted in RM24.7 million in losses.
