Eric Holcomb and health officials updated the public on the state s response to the coronavirus pandemic Wednesday, March 3, 2021.  To date, Indiana has reported 663,511 coronavirus cases and 12,200 deaths.  Here s what we learned Wednesday:  Holcomb announced people age 50 and older are now eligible for vaccinations. Holcomb said he will “practice what I preach” and will get a vaccine Friday, now that he’s eligible. Some Indiana legislators will also be getting vaccinated Friday morning. Saturday marks one year since Indiana’s first reported COVID-19 case. “We have been through a lot together,” Holcomb said. He added that he counts “his lucky stars every day” that hundreds of thousands of Hoosiers are getting vaccinated.

Hoosiers age 40 and older will become eligible incrementally, as more vaccine is made available. That group would account for more than 50% of Indiana’s classroom teachers and 91% of all Hoosiers with comorbidities.
