Wohali approval caps divisive process

The Coalville City Council late last month approved plans for 125 homes and 303 nightly rentals in the proposed Wohali golf course community west of the city. The vote capped a yearslong, sometimes divisive process that prompted questions about the city’s identity.

Wohali hearing a culmination

Courtesy of Lynn Wood The Coalville City Council is holding a public hearing Monday to receive input on and possibly approve the first phase of the Wohali development, as well as a development agreement that governs the entire gated golf community planned for the city’s west side. Mayor Trever Johnson said the council’s vote will be a culmination of an approval process that has taken the better part of four years. It has involved dozens of sometimes contentious public meetings and prompted questions about what it means to be a resident of Coalville and whether the East Side city can withstand the “Park City-fication” brought on by the pressures of growth.

Coalville City Council Votes Approval For Wohali Development 2 0

The Council unanimously voted Monday night for a proposed rural golf resort community, with 125 residential lots and 303 nightly rentals. The Council vote gave a Master Plan Development and Phase One Preliminary Subdivision Plat approval to Wohali. The community debate over the property goes back to 2018, when it was annexed by the city. The developers proposed a mixed-use project of over 1660 acres calling for a Zone Map Amendment.  It was approved by the Coalville Council a year ago.    But after a citizens group launched a referendum effort, the applicants went back to the drawing board.
