Two Area Manure Spills Lead to Fish Kills By charguth April 15, 2021 9:37 am Saga Communications Spencer, IA (KICD)– Fish kills have been reported in two area waterways after Iowa Department of Natural Resources staff were called to investigate manure spills. The first incident was reported in Mud Creek northwest of Rock Rapids which occurred when an irrigation until became stuck and spilled several hundred thousand gallons of manure into nearby fields eventually reaching the creek. Slow flow rates then caused the manure-laden water to slowly move downstream which has DNR officials recommending livestock producers depending on water in Mud Creek to check conditions for the next few days.
