DECC, Duluth Businesses Prepare for Higher Capacities and Loosed Restriction Following Walz Announcement

Fox21Online May 6, 2021 Here in Duluth, local establishments are ready to welcome in more customers. Event spaces like the DECC, along with bars and restaurants around the city were surprised at how much the governor is loosening restrictions but are ready to get back to normal. “We’re really excited. I don’t think we really thought that this day would really come anytime soon,” said Dee Nelson, Marketing Director at Blacklist Brewing Company. DECC Interim Executive Director Roger Reinert says the news is a game-changer for the DECC as they get ready to host big events again after current restrictions made hosting events difficult.

But the iconic event facility is not turning a complete corner, given remaining state health limits on the number of people who can attend. This restriction of 250 people maximum at each event continues to present a financial challenge for the DECC, but seeing the increase in the overall use of our space is welcome, interim Executive Director Roger Reinert said in a news release Monday.

CHUM received 4,186 pounds of frozen food from the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center. Ensuring spaces within the DECC complex are ready for activity is a critical step as the DECC prepares for an increase in events. Clearing the freezers of older inventory is one step in that process. The food was maintained properly, but is nearing expiration dates. Since it s not usable by the DECC, they donated it to help others.
