Woman’s remains unclaimed 3 years after $850K Doña Ana County death settlement to her family FAIRACRES, New Mexico - Her family may have settled for hundreds of thousands of dollars in connection with her 2017 death, but three years later, Doña Ana County officials say no one has claimed the body of Heather Bubrig. In October 2017, authorities say a reserve deputy with the Doña Ana County Sheriff s Department shot and killed the 37-year-old woman in Fairacres. As ABC-7 reported, she was accused of rushing him with an axe. That deputy was cleared of Bubrig s death, but her family still sued and settled for $850,000, according to documents obtained by ABC-7.

Delaware County eyes tax decrease as budget numbers firm up

Delaware County may be headed for a tax decrease next year but at this point, it s too uncertain for county council to tell as the revenues and expenditures aren t clear. Last week, county Executive Director Howard Lazarus gave a budget presentation focusing on the county s fiscal situation through the end of March. The county budget cycle runs from January through December. This is the first time a budget presentation was offered in the spring; usually, a presentation is given in December prior to the adoption of the following year s budget. The complaint, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania by attorney Stephen J. Pokiniewski on behalf of Christopher Beaty Jr. and Nichole Garcia, alleges the county failed to design or enact policies to limit the spread of the virus in the county-run facility, leading to the death of 63-year-old Christopher Beaty Sr. after he was exposed to COVID-19 through his roommate. “The matter has been referred to our insurance company for review,” said county Solicitor Bill Martin. “The county takes any such allegations very seriously and will review the facts to make sure that Fair Acres continues
