Construction of South Portland middle school slated for the spring
Most of the project s $69 million price tag will be covered by state funding. The new facility will consolidate Memorial and Mahoney middle schools at the Memorial site.

SOUTH PORTLAND South Portland’s combined middle school project is scheduled to finally break ground later this spring after more than five years in the making.
School Superintendent Ken Kunin said this week that officials expect to get final bids on the $69 million project next month. Construction at the site of the current Memorial Middle School is expected to begin in May or early June.

Greater Albany Public Schools students are still scheduled to begin returning to in-person instruction on March 29 but nothing will look the same as it used to and time at schools will still be limited.Â
On Monday, Assistant Superintendent Lisa Harlan updated the school board on the district s plan to begin phasing students back into classrooms but noted state requirements will still limit the school day.
Currently, about 350 GAPS students are receiving instruction under limited in-person instruction. That instruction will stop on March 16 to give the transportation department two weeks to map out new routes for when hybrid learning begins.Â

Each day the students did something different from leaving thank you cards for postal workers and nurses and doctors, to making breakfast for family members. The activities that our Stepping Stone students are involved in are very academically engaging and fun filled, MMS Vice Principal Dominick Tarquinio said. And always recognizing what the rest of our community is doing, we wanted to thank them for their services.
