SINGAPORE - More than 5,500 workers have been tested as part of a pre-emptive Covid-19 testing operation across various dorms and worksites from last Friday to Monday (April 23 to 26), said the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) on Wednesday.
The authorities are carrying out this precautionary measure following the cluster at Westlite Woodlands Dormitory which has seven cases so far, including five who were reinfected. In all, 26 residents at the dorm had tested positive for Covid-19, though of these cases, two subsequently tested negative while another 11 were assessed to be shedding virus fragments.
These tests are in addition to the rostered routine testing conducted on dorm residents every 14 days, and includes both workers who have recovered from previous infections and workers who have never been infected, said MOM in a statement.

As of Monday night, about 2.1% of the student population had cast their votes in the election, which includes the first president and vice president campaign to run unopposed since 2015. After the first day of voting last year, about 4.9% of students had voted. The election needs at least 10% of students to vote for the results to be valid.

Another 11 workers living in Westlite Woodlands dormitory have tested positive for Covid-19, including 10 who had recovered from the virus, said the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) yesterday.
This was after a 35-year-old Bangladeshi worker living in the purpose-built dorm tested positive on Monday, despite having received both doses of the vaccine.
The Straits Times understands that plans are now being made to move hundreds of workers to a quarantine facility.
MOM said in a statement last night that its Assurance, Care and Engagement Group and the Ministry of Health (MOH) took swift public health action after the case was detected as part of rostered routine testing for migrant workers.
