The deadline to apply is May 28, 2012. “One of the core values at our law firm is giving back,“ Barrilleaux says. “We hope that by offering educational assistance to local students, we are helping support future community leaders. Education is an essential tool for creating opportunity, and positive change comes from that. We think it’s so important that we’ve increased our scholarship from $500 to $1,000 this year.”

Louisiana picks design firm for $14M coastal research center February 8, 2021 GMT THIBODAUX, La. (AP) Louisiana has hired a firm to design a $14.5 million coastal research center at Nicholls State University. Thibodaux-based Duplantis Design Group will design the project, and the building should be put out to bid by the end of the year, the school and the Louisiana Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority said in a news release Monday. “When Nicholls was founded in 1948, we were 50 miles (80 kilometers) from the Gulf Coast. Today, we are 24 miles (39 kilometers) away,” university President Jay Clune said. “We are the closest Louisiana university to the Gulf, so we have more at stake in this fight to save our coast.”

Nicholls spring enrollment highest in a decade The Courier and Daily Comet Nicholls State University’s spring enrollment is its highest in a decade, thanks to a sharp increase in graduate students, according to a news release from the school.  The number of students on campus is 6,165, up 60 students from last spring. This is the highest spring enrollment since 2011 and the sixth consecutive year-to-year enrollment increase.  “I am excited and encouraged to see our enrollment continue to climb, even as we grapple with a pandemic that has affected our daily lives for nearly a year now,” said  Alex Arceneaux, executive vice president for enrollment and external affairs. “Our students, faculty and staff continue to prove how resilient they are in the face of this pandemic, and their resolve has set us up for continued success now and in the foreseeable future.” 

Synergy Bank announces new banking officers

Wayne Robinson was named Gray Office manager and consumer lender.  Katie Portier was named the bank’s marketing director. Robinson has 12 years of banking experience, previously serving as assistant branch manager and loan assistant, credit analyst, administrative loan assistant and teller. He is a member of the Terrebonne Men’s Carnival Club and is a Thibodaux United Competitive Soccer coach. He has previously served as a Thibodaux Chamber of Commerce ambassador.  He is a 2003 graduate of South Lafourche High. Portier previously served as a marketing associate at the bank. She received her bachelor’s degree in mass communication and public relations from Nicholls State University in 2009. Portier has 11 years of marketing and nonprofit experience. She is a member of the Rotary Club of Houma and Junior Auxiliary of Houma. She graduated from Terrebonne High in 2005.
