Starting May 15 at 9 a.m., those who are fully vaccinated will no longer be required to wear a mask when outside or inside.
Governor Whitmer made the announcement Friday, and says this is another step in putting the pandemic behind us.
“Throughout this entire pandemic, our north star has been data and science from the CDC, and our public health professionals and we are going to continue to listen and trust the experts,” said Governor Whitmer. “After months of getting out the damn vaccines, the data is clear.”
While it does bring us closer to normalcy, Public Information Officer with LMAS Health Department Kerry Ott is worried those who aren’t vaccinated will abuse the updated gatherings and mask order as they aren’t required to disclose their status.

As the summer months approach, the Petoskey Regional Chamber of Commerce is looking to connect employers and new workers virtually.
The chamber hosted an online job fair earlier Monday, specifically for college and high school students looking for summer employment. This virtual space allows employees to get acquainted with their potential employers and set up a secondary interview.
The chamber says they currently have plenty job openings in a variety of fields, but haven’t seen the number of employees sign up to register for their second job fair, which is now being pushed back until May 10 to allow more people to sign up.

Petoskey businesses are short staffed, and the summer season still has yet to arrive.
President of the Petoskey Chamber of Commerce Nikki Devitt said after all of the shutdowns and restrictions, it’s an important summer for the area. “What we’re seeing now is the concern is greater even then it was last summer because already job ads are staying open and they’re not being filled,” she said.
Devitt said well over half of Petoskey businesses including almost all of those in the hospitality industry are short staffed, including Beards Brewery who will have to close for the next 10 days. “Cases in the area are spiking pretty heavily and pretty out of control and we had some staff exposed at an after hours event so at that point we’re already so thin that it’s kind of our only option at this point,” said Ben Slocum, owner of Beards Brewery.
