Strabala sworn in as Stuttgart mayor | Stuttgart Daily Leader

County Judge Eddie Best delivers the oath of the office of mayor to Norma King Strabala. The city of Stuttgart has a new mayor as former alderman Norma King Strabala was sworn into office Monday evening. The ceremony took place during a reception held at Open Season Sports Bar & Grill in Stuttgart. Strabala hosted a meet and greet reception for the community prior to the swearing-in ceremony. She was sworn into office by County Judge Eddie Best at 5 p.m. Following the swearing-in, Strabala thanked the crowd and the community for their support, and said it’s time to get to work to “make Stuttgart what it used to be.”

Special election today for Stuttgart mayor | Stuttgart Daily Leader

The Arkansas County Courthouse Annex on South College is the site of election day voting for mayor of Stuttgart. Today is election day in the special election for Stuttgart mayor. Polls opened at 7:30 a.m. and will close at 7:30 p.m. The Arkansas County Courthouse Annex at 312 S. College St. is the single location for voting. Election results can be followed this evening by listening to Country 97.3 KDEW FM and will be announced on the Facebook pages of Country 97.3 and the Stuttgart Daily Leader. Coverage will also be provided in tomorrow’s edition of the Stuttgart Daily Leader. The three candidates running for Stuttgart mayor are Wade Hobbs, Theodore “Teddy” Holt, and Norma King Strabala.

Family remembers Royston Swimming Club teacher Frank Streek

Frank Streek, who was born in 1928, taught children at the Meridian School swimming pool in the 1970s and 1980s. Frank Streek at the beach in 1967 - Credit: Supplied Born Albert Francis Streek, Frank passed the 11-plus exam with ease which gained him entry to Northampton Grammar School for Boys.  According to his family and friends, he was equally at home in the chemistry lab as in the library as well as being a keen swimmer who made the school team - a skill which would come into use later in life.

Early voting for Stuttgart mayor starts today | Stuttgart Daily Leader

Early voting for Stuttgart’s mayoral special election began this morning and will continue through Monday, April 12. Early voting will take place weekdays between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. at the Arkansas County Courthouse Annex at 312 S. College St. Election day is Tuesday, April 13, and polls will open at 7:30 a.m. and close at 7:30 p.m. that day. During their March meeting, the Stuttgart City Council voted to have only one central polling location for the election, after the Grand Prairie Center closed temporarily due to significant flooding damage experienced during February’s snow storm.
