Redshirt freshman Justin Starke had six hits on the day, but that was just about the only nice thing you could say for VMI as the Keydets were swept by Samford Friday, 25-1 and 11-5.
The Bulldogs (26-19/16-7 SoCon) hit eight home runs in the two games, including three from Max Pinto in the nightcap.
Game 1
Samford jumped out early with six runs in the top of the first inning of the opener. The Bulldogs followed with five in the fifth and 12 in the sixth and the game was called after seven due to the conference’s 10-run rule.

The VMI baseball team had five players with multiple hits Friday evening and cruised to a 13-5 victory at The Citadel in the opening game of a three-game Southern Conference series. The contest was called in the eighth inning after the benches cleared.
Red-shirt sophomore Will Knight was 3-5 for VMI with a double, three RBI and two runs scored. Justin Starke was 2-3 with a triple, two walks, two runs and two RBI. Zac Morris went 2-4 with a home run, two runs and a walk, Cody Warner had two hits and a walk and Ty Swaim also had two hits. Callen Nuccio tripled, walked and scored twice and Cole Garrett drove in three runs Nathan Loyd walked twice and stole a base.

VMI rallied from an early four-run deficit to tie the game in the middle innings, but VCU took control from there on the way to a 15-5 win Tuesday at The Diamond.
The Rams (23-14, 5-3 A-10) started the game with two runs in a bases loaded situation. A single by Liam Hibbits added two more scores to go up 4-0 at the end of two innings.
