Nigeria’s U-19 volleyball boys team have retained their title as champions of Africa after beating Morocco 3-0 (25-8, 25-21, 25-23) on the final day of the 2021 African Nations Volleyball Championship in Abuja.
Both countries have also sealed qualification to the 2021 FIVB U-19 World Championship in Iran.
The Nigerian boys were unstoppable in the first set as they cruised past the Moroccans in the opening minutes as a fantastic combination of the setters and spikers saw Nigeria humiliate Morocco by 25-8 points.
The second set produced interesting rallies, blocks, and spikes from both teams but the home team took the set by 25-21 points. Nigeria came into the 3rd set with a dominant attitude, killing it 8-1 at the first technical timeout. Morocco re-strategised with substitutions to foil the Nigerian attack, but it was too late for the North Africans as Nigeria went on to win it 25-23 points.

Nigeria’s under-19 boys on Monday retained their title by defeating their Moroccan counterparts 3-0 on the final day of the 2020 African Nations Volleyball Championship in Abuja.
In the match played at the indoor sports hall of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Nigeria won 25-8, 25-21, 25-23.
Nigeria and Cameroon have now qualified for the next World Cup championship which will hold in Iran later this year.
Speaking after the match, Sani Mohammed, coach of the Nigerian team, said he was very proud of his team.
“I’m happy that we maintained our status by defending the title championship for African Nations Volleyball Championship.

Abuja, Feb. 16, 2021 The President of the African Volleyball Confederation (CAVB), Bouchra Hajij, on Tuesday, announced that Nigeria would host the 2020 Boys U-19 African Nations Volleyball Championship.
This was conveyed in a letter signed by the President of CAVB, disclosing that the championship would be held in accordance with CAVB competition regulations.
The letter read: “Further to the communication between the CAVB President and Habu Gumel, we have the pleasure to inform you that CAVB has entrusted the organisation of the 2020 Boys U19 African Nations Volleyball Championship, to the Nigeria Volleyball Federation.
“The championship will be used as the continental qualifier to the 2021 FIVB World Championship for Youth Boys U19 and is scheduled to be played from March 1, to March 9, 2021, in Abuja, Nigeria.
