Tuesday, April 20th, Galesburg Police were dispatched to the 1800 block of Windish Drive in reference to a burglary in progress. Dispatchers informed officers that two subjects had departed May Storage in a white van. Officers caught up with the van and initiated an investigative stop in the 2200 block of North Seminary Street. Police made contact with the van’s driver: 42-year old Steven Anderson of Galesburg. It was discovered that Anderson had two Knox County Warrants: one for drug paraphernalia, the other for leaving the scene of an accident. The owners of the storage units told police they suffered a break-in weeks ago by subjects driving a white van. The owners had photo evidence of the van, the subjects, and the burglary tools being used. Anderson was transported to the Public Safety Building where he admitted to breaking into storage units. On Wednesday, December 23rd, Galesburg Police were dispatched to Walmart for a retail theft in progress. According to police reports, Walmart store employees observed 39-year old Artavia Gater of Galesburg inside the Garden Center pushing a cart with two 50-inch TVs inside valued at over $630 total. It was later discovered that Gater had cut off security spider wire devices from the TVs while in the Garden Center, but internal security devices triggered the alarm. Employees told police that Gater didn’t seem to mind that employees were suspicious and were following him. Gater then pushed the cart all the way across the store to the west front entrance near the grocery section, where employees were standing. Gater then did an about-face and walked to the east front doors which were closed. Gater manually opened the first set of sliding doors and pushed the cart through.
