GPD investigating alleged internal theft by two former Bridgeway maintenance workers

A 65-year-old Galesburg man and a 42-year-old Knoxville man are being investigated for an internal theft at Bridgeway following the former employees' terminations. Galesburg Police responded to a maintenance shed on Windish Drive owned by Bridgeway on Friday morning and met with employees. Staff was first tipped off on the internal theft when neither former maintenance worker turned in coins from the laundry machines for well over a year. The machines bring in around $3500 annually. Staff then learned the two had turned in numerous loads of scrap metal from Bridgeway, while in a Bridgeway maintenance truck, and collected the cash. GPD then learned the former employees each had a company credit card to purchase whatever tools and equipment they needed. The two made over 37 transactions at Menards totaling well over $1,000 in purchases. None of the equipment purchased could be located following their termination. GPD respond to six more burglaries to motor vehicle calls on Sunday; recover stolen bikes; recover stolen Cadillac

The Galesburg Police Department responded to another slew of reports of vehicles getting entered and burglarized. Yesterday afternoon, police responded to the 900 block of North Cherry Street after a 56-year-old woman reported her 2016 Honda Accord was rummaged through. In the 1900 block of Patterson Drive, a 37-year-old man's 2020 Dodge Durango was rummaged through. A 26-year-old woman's 2021 Kia Forte was also entered in the 1900 block of Patterson Drive. Someone attempted to start the Kia - the ignition was damaged, and a screwdriver was left sticking out of it. In the 2700 block of Costa Drive, a 59-year-old man's 2016 Nissan Frontier was entered and all the doors were left open. In the 2100 block of Windish Drive, a 52-year-old woman reported a 2016 Kia Forte was rummaged through and thieves made off with flash drives of music and a key fob. Galesburg School District-owned Ford box truck stolen from Windish Drive

Galesburg Police is investigating after a work vehicle owned by the Galesburg School District was stolen. GPD responded to the 2100 block of Windish Drive last Thursday, October 7th. The district keeps a white 1998 Ford box truck - similar to a UHaul truck, parked near the storage units on Windish Drive. School employees told police the truck was parked there around 11:00 am on Thursday - an employee had left the keys inside the unlocked vehicle. Police viewed the security video provided by the Knox County Humane Society. In the footage, officers observed a white male suspect between 30 and 40 years old walk around the vehicle, peer inside the windows and the bed, and then around 12:15 pm, the vehicle is seeing being driven away. The Ford van is white with a District 205 sticker on the doors. Employees told police nothing of value was inside the van since the district recently purchased a newer work truck. The investigation is ongoing.

Galesburg man arrested again after attempting to steal from Walmart

On Tuesday, May 25th just after 4:00 pm, Galesburg Police received calls of a theft in progress at Walmart. According to police reports, a Walmart employee who was shopping and not on the clock at the time observed 41-year old Muhammed Lawall of Galesburg stuffing duffel bags full of merchandise totaling over $530. The duffel bags were also stolen. Lawall got on a bicycle and road towards Hawthorne Center. A Galesburg Police officer was already stationary on Windish Drive, recognized Lawall due to previous encounters, and attempted to stop him. The officer, at one point, was driving parallel with Lawall and yelled at him to stop. Lawall eventually crashed the bike on a dead end and took off on foot. Police gave chase and Lawall was eventually detained. Lawall, who is on parole, already had two prior larceny charges. He was transported to the Knox County Jail charged with Resisting a Peace Officer and Retail Theft over $300.
