A CAITHNESS artist is creating two unique garments which have been inspired by the coronavirus and a wartime tablecloth which became a poignant memento of servicemen in World War II.
Joanne B. Kaar, who is one of the Lyth Arts Centre artists in residence, is to hand stitch the names of carers from across the county onto a care-worker s uniform. A second garment will feature the names of anyone in Caithness community who has felt increasingly isolated throughout the pandemic. The items will feature in her new TEXTiles project.

Each edition would have a picture of a location that might be off the beaten track â or perhaps quite a prominent site, but photographed from an unusual angle â and readers would be challenged to identify it.

Beacon of Hope, by Margaret Reid.
Thurso Camera Club s first competition of 2021 featured coastal scenes ranging from weather to wildlife and from surfing to sea-stacks.
Zoom allowed the club to draw upon the skills of accredited judge Steve Kirkby, an experienced photographer based in Hampshire, for its meeting on February 1.
There were 38 submissions on the theme of The Coast, and Steve gave constructive comments on each individual entry which consolidated the general advice he had given at the outset.
