Framber Valdez tossed six hitless innings and Yordan Alvarez belted a home run in the seventh as the host Houston Astros defeated the reeling Texas Rangers 4-1 Saturday.
Valdez walked six batters for the second time in three starts yet pitched effectively enough to send Texas to its 11th consecutive loss. Alvarez provided insurance with his 18th homer, a solo shot off reliever Josh Sborz as the Astros improved to 8-0 at home against Texas this season.
The Rangers, no-hit by the Yankees Cory Kluber and the Padres Joe Musgrove earlier this season, broke up the Astros combined no-hit bid when Isiah Kiner-Falefa dropped a leadoff single into shallow right field off Houston reliever Ryne Stanek leading off the eighth.

HOUSTON (AP) Kyle Tucker hit a three-run homer in Houston’s big third inning to help the Astros hand the Texas Rangers their 10th straight loss with a 7-3 victory on Friday night.
After Yordan Alvarez hit an RBI single and Carlos Correa followed with an RBI grounder, Tucker fought through a nine-pitch at-bat fouling off six pitches in a row before smacking a fastball from Kolby Allard (2-8) into the bullpen in right center field to make it 5-0. It was Tucker s 18th.

Kyle Tucker capped a five-run third inning with a three-run home run and the Houston Astros sent the visiting Texas Rangers to their 10th consecutive loss with a 7-3 victory on Friday.
Tucker fouled off six consecutive pitches from Rangers left-hander Kolby Allard (2-8) before bashing a 91.6-MPH four-seam fastball out to right-center field. Tucker s 18th home run followed an RBI single from Yordan Alvarez and a run-scoring groundout by Carlos Correa. Tucker s bomb plated Yuli Gurriel and Correa to extend the Houston lead to 5-0.
