Hawks Drop Two To Durant

The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk softball team was swept Tuesday in a River Valley Conference doubleheader by No. 11 Durant. The Wildcats took game one 14-8 and shut out the Hawks in game two 12-0. Durant jumped on Mid-Prairie early in game one, plating eight runs in their first half inning. Mid-Prairie would answer back with two in the bottom half, with each team scoring once in the second. The Wildcats would add another run in the third and the Hawks would put up a pair in the fourth to leave the score at 10-5. Durant kept the pressure on scoring in each of their last three innings with two runs in the fifth and one each in the sixth and seventh. Mid-Prairie also didn’t go quietly, scoring once in the fifth and twice in the sixth. Hannah Sellers had three hits, including a home run and drove in a pair. Myah Lugar and Brenna Jehle also each had two RBI. Lugar took the loss in the circle, working five and a third innings, allowing 16 hits, 13 runs and striking out four.

Spartans Shut Out Hawks in Semis

The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls soccer team saw their season come to an end Tuesday in the regional semifinal round of the class 1A playoffs at No. 15 Solon by a 3-0 score. The Golden Hawks were looking for revenge after a 2-0 setback against the Spartans early this season. Defenses dominated the action in the first half with neither team able to break through, sending the match to intermission scoreless. The Spartans put together a dominant middle portion of the second half, scoring three times between the 45th and 60th minute with goals coming from Morgan Link, Stella Mesch and Gabby Knipper. The Golden Hawks end the season at 11-6, tying the school record for wins in a season. The Hawks graduate seniors Sidney Davis, Emma Slaubaugh, Katrina Curtiss, Caitlyn Busch, Jenna Miller, Emily Swartzentruber and Rhiannon Panken.

Hawks See Top 15 Spartans in Semis

The season is on the line Monday for the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls soccer team when they travel to Solon to take on the state ranked Spartans. Mid-Prairie enters the match with an 11-5 record on the year after opening the regional tournament with a 10-0 mercy rule win over Columbus led by two goals each from Sophie Baker and Esther Hughes and two assists each from Kaitlin Martin and Evelyn Gerber. For the year, the Hawks are led by 21 goals for Hughes, eight assists for Martin and Emily Swartzentruber with 77 saves and a 74% save percentage in over 1,000 minutes in goal.
