The Board of Selectmen on March 16.
Trash barrels are currently being delivered by the town’s new trash hauler, ABC Disposal, Inc.
“Barrels are going here, barrels are going there,” Selectman Peter Teitelbaum confirmed during the March 16 Board of Selectmen meeting.
Unfortunately, the delivery process hasn’t been entirely smooth-sailing.
“Some barrels are going where they’re not supposed to go, some barrels are not going where they are supposed to go,” he said.
Teitelbaum advised different courses of action depending on the problem Wareham residents have encountered.
Those who have gotten barrels they don’t need because they have opted out of curbside pickup should call the town’s Municipal Maintenance Department at 508-295-5300, Teitelbaum said. The department will make arrangements for ABC to retrieve the barrel.

Walcek has served as chief since February of 2020, after becoming acting chief in 2018 following the retirement of former Chief Kevin Walsh.
Walcek first began working for the Wareham Police Department in 1987, when at the age of 20 he was hired as a summer special officer. Prior to that, he had worked as a call firefighter at the West Wareham station in 1984 while still in high school. After more than three decades with the department, Wareham’s Chief of Police John Walcek will retire on April 17.
Walcek announced his upcoming retirement from the department on Thursday, March 4. Walcek was sworn in as chief of police in February 2020. Before that, he served as acting chief for nearly two years.

Walcek said he considers his time serving Wareham’s residents an “honor and privilege.”
“I am as proud to be a Wareham police officer today as I was the first day I walked a beat on Main Street the 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. shift, May 31, 1987,” he said. “Wareham is blessed to have a police force made up of dedicated professionals, supported by the Town Administrator as well as the Board of Selectmen.”
