MASSENA â An objection that was filed with the St. Lawrence County Board of Elections regarding the Massena Republican caucus was not upheld during a vote last week.
The objection alleged that the Board of Elections did not receive proper notice of the Massena Republican caucus.
The required notices were published by local media for the two July 8 caucuses â one to nominate candidates for village mayor and the second to nominate candidates for town supervisor, town council, town justice and town clerk.
âThe objection was not upheld. That means that one voted to uphold and one voted to reject. Because it was not unanimous, the objection was not upheld,â St. Lawrence County Board of Elections Commissioner Thomas Nichols said.
MASSENA â As a youngster and an adult fished from the end of a dock, shortly after a boat had been launched from that same area, the New York Power Authority officially cut the ribbon on a much renovated Massena Intake Friday morning.
NYPA President and Chief Executive Officer Gil C. Quiniones said a partnership between NYPA and local communities made the renovations come to fruition.
âThe facilities at the Massena Intake came about because of the great partnerships NYPA has with the local community through the Local Government Task Force,â he said.
Massena Town Supervisor Steven D. OâShaughnessy serves as the Local Government Task Force chairman, and Louisville Town Supervisor Larry Legault is the vice chair.

The town of Rotterdam has hired an engineering consultant to do programming and a conceptual design of the former Kmart building at the Rotterdam ViaPort so the town can explore the possibility of relocating its offices there.
The town voted unanimously Wednesday evening during its town board meeting to hire Albany engineering firm Barton & Loguidice for $32,000.
The firm is expected to develop a plan to reconfigure the 80,000-square-foot space to house the town’s administrative offices, police and public works departments and the justice court.
MASSENA â The Massena Town Council will have a different look next year because of some comings and goings.
Democratic Town Supervisor Steven D. OâShaughnessy, Deputy Supervisor Samuel D. Carbone Jr. and council member Albert N. Nicola are not seeking another term. During the Massena Democratic Partyâs caucus on Tuesday evening, Kyle White was nominated to fill one of the council vacancies. There were no nominations for town supervisor, the second council seat or town clerk.
Joseph Brown was nominated for another term as town justice, and current village trustee Gregory M. Paquin was nominated for village mayor.
Mr. Paquin had been elected to a trustee seat in last yearâs election. He replaced long-time board member Albert âHerbâ Deshaies, who had served since 1996 and did not seek another term.
