The TaxPayers’ Alliance (TPA) has released their Town Hall Rich List, compiling all UK council employees in receipt of £100,000 or more.
Data released on April 7 by the alliance revealed that at least 2,802 people employed by local authorities in 2019-20 received more than £100,000 in total remuneration.
This was an increase of 135 employees receiving more than £100,000 in 2018-19.
Who are the TaxPayers’ Alliance?
The TaxPayers’ Alliance are a grassroots pressure group who campaign for lower taxes in the UK.
They are based in central London and, according to their website, have 75,000 supporters nationwide.

A total of 97 members of council staff across Greater Manchester’s 10 boroughs are being paid more than £100,000 a year.

In the list, all of the staff within Greater Manchester’s 10 borough councils who are paid a substantial wage from public money are listed.
Funded by the tax payer, each staff member (some named, some not) has their basic salary listed, as well as their expenses claims for the last financial year and any pension contributions.

Ten members of staff at Rochdale Borough Council are being paid more than £100,000 per year – the third highest in Greater Manchester.

The former chief executive of Staffordshire Moorlands District Council claimed more in expenses in one year than any other local authority officer in the country.
Simon Baker, who was the shared top officer at Staffs Moorlands and High Peak Borough Council, claimed £38,043 in expenses in 2019/20 – the highest amount in the UK according to a report from the TaxPayers Alliance.
