Williamsport crimewatch website given positive recommendation | News, Sports, Jobs

mmaroney@sungazette.com A $6,000 a year residential and business surveillance camera registry that is on city police platform was given a positive recommendation Tuesday by City Council’s public safety committee. Crimewatch, if approved by City Council, will cost the city $3,000 a year, with half the cost paid for by Lycoming County District Attorney Ryan Gardner, city Police Chief Damon R. Hagan said. The interactive site includes a digital platform giving the ability to give police crime tips, provide the public information on how to and who to contact for specific crimes, and allow those with surveillance cameras to register their home and business cameras to assist police in solving crimes or investigations.

mmaroney@sungazette.com A Williamsport district judge delayed making a ruling Friday on whether enough evidence exists against a former city police officer who allegedly used department resources to coerce women into sexual relationships. District Judge Allen Page said he would review the evidence and come to a decision Wednesday after accusations were brought against Eric Derr, the ex-officer, who resigned last September. Derr faces charges filed by state Deputy Attorney General Rebecca A. Elo to include 28 counts of unlawful use of a computer and other computer crimes, falsifying reports, tampering with public records and obstructing the law and criminal coercion.

Corrie Cowlay-Saunders WILLIAMSPORT A city woman has been charged in the death of her five-month-old baby girl and alleged stabbing of her estranged boyfriend, both of whom were the infant’s parents, city police said. The deceased girl’s mother, Corrie Shanikah Cowlay-Saunders, 22, of 344 Adams St. has been charged with criminal homicide along with attempted homicide for allegedly stabbing her estranged boyfriend, Cordell Faltz, in the neck and jaw, after allegedly killing Cailania Faltz, the baby, Thursday night, according to an arrest affidavit by city Police Agent Laura Kitko. Lycoming County Coroner Charles E. Kiessing Jr. said the girl was pronounced dead by one of his deputy coroners and an autopsy was scheduled for today at Lehigh Valley Medical Center in Allentown.
