State files 28 new charges against ex-cop | News, Sports, Jobs

jbergmueller@sungazette.com The Pennsylvania Attorney General’s office has filed new charges against Eric Derr, a former city police officer initially accused of abusing his position across 34 charges. Those initial charges evaporated into three following a preliminary hearing where three were withdrawn because a witness was unavailable and 28 were dismissed after a judge found there was not enough evidence to prove criminal intent. Now, the Commonwealth is bringing 28 charges, related to the unlawful use of a computer, back to court with additional evidence and witnesses. According to David Scicchitano, from the attorney general’s office, Derr, of Cogan Station, allegedly used the police J-NET system to access the private records of women unrelated to police investigations.

Decision delayed in case against ex-policeman | News, Sports, Jobs

mmaroney@sungazette.com A Williamsport district judge delayed making a ruling Friday on whether enough evidence exists against a former city police officer who allegedly used department resources to coerce women into sexual relationships. District Judge Allen Page said he would review the evidence and come to a decision Wednesday after accusations were brought against Eric Derr, the ex-officer, who resigned last September. Derr faces charges filed by state Deputy Attorney General Rebecca A. Elo to include 28 counts of unlawful use of a computer and other computer crimes, falsifying reports, tampering with public records and obstructing the law and criminal coercion.

Former city police officer arraigned on misconduct charges | News, Sports, Jobs

jbergmueller@sungazette.com A former Williamsport City police officer has been arraigned on charges related to alleged misconduct, according to the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General. Eric Derr, 36, of 6629 state Route 973 W, Cogan Station, is accused of leveraging his authority as an officer of the law in two allegedly coercive sexual relationships with women by Josh Shapiro, the state’s attorney general. An affidavit filed by David Scicchitano, a detective, alleges that Derr met “Female No. 1” when she was involved in a drug arrest April 23, 2015. Scicchitano alleged Female No. 1 told him she began receiving lewd photos, sometimes involving his police uniform and car, which led to a sexual relationship between the two.
