A group of west Baltimore youth are saddling up with a new hands-on course riding with horses.City Ranch Inc. brings city kids and country horses together every Tuesday as part of a partnership with the University of Maryland in which 24 of children will get to fulfill a dream. (It s) just a dream of doing something for the city, said Ahesahmahk Dahn, director of City Ranch. This is about paying attention to what s going on around you. The free program for youth ages 10 through 15 is dedicated not just to riding, but also grooming and caring for the horses. I can clean a horse. I can set up a horse, like, tack it up. I learned a lot overall, one participant said. The youth also make new friends and pick up some life skills along the way. It s really fun to watch the kids grow in their confidence and in their skills and try something new that they may have never tried before, said Sarah Turner, a program specialist with the University of Maryland, Baltimore Community Engagemen
