A group of west Baltimore youth are saddling up with a new hands-on course riding with horses.City Ranch Inc. brings city kids and country horses together every Tuesday as part of a partnership with the University of Maryland in which 24 of children will get to fulfill a dream."(It's) just a dream of doing something for the city," said Ahesahmahk Dahn, director of City Ranch. "This is about paying attention to what's going on around you."The free program for youth ages 10 through 15 is dedicated not just to riding, but also grooming and caring for the horses."I can clean a horse. I can set up a horse, like, tack it up. I learned a lot overall," one participant said. The youth also make new friends and pick up some life skills along the way."It's really fun to watch the kids grow in their confidence and in their skills and try something new that they may have never tried before," said Sarah Turner, a program specialist with the University of Maryland, Baltimore Community Engagement Center."It says that, given the right stimuli, the children that we think cannot can," Dahn said.
