First Tee s Christy Miller runs for a cause | Hartford Business Journal

By Keith Griffin As many familiar with volunteerism will tell you, people would rather give $10 instead of 10 minutes. It’s just a reflection of our busy lives. Christy Miller is an outlier. She’ll give 10,000 steps (more like 70,000) to raise funds and awareness for causes she cares about. All of this after hours in her role as development director for First Tee Connecticut. So if you are of tender disposition you’d better waft a perfumed lace hankie under your nose and pass swiftly on to the public announcements or the letters page. Because it’s all about the origin of the word “bog”. As in: “Where’s Dad?” Response: “He’s on the bog.” In other words the slang term for the toilet, lavatory, dunny, crapper or privy. For the answer to this troublesome question, come with me back to the Worcester of the early 19th century. A time when the city’s population was starting to explode – and any other double entendre Carry On scriptwriters might come up with.
