Yes, racism is a public health issue - Tuesday marked the anniversary of George Floyd’s murder and a tipping point in how we view race in this country. It seems fitting that the day before this milestone, significant support was thrown behind the creation of a Civilian Review Board with subpoena powers. On Monday, the Worcester Board of Health unanimously voted to join Black Families Together and the local branch of the NAACP, along with 18 other community groups in supporting the measure. This isn’t the first time that the BoH has discussed police accountability and hopefully won’t be the last. In fact its July meeting will take community testimony once again and ask how Worcester can become the best anti-racist city in the country. Delay in Capitol riot case against town meeting member: A Natick woman charged in connection to the Jan. 6 U.S. Capitol riot had her case pushed back by two months due to the enormity of the investigation, according to federal prosecutors. Suzanne Ianni, an elected Town Meeting member, was arrested by the FBI in January and charged at federal court in Boston. Prosecutors are prioritizing cases against defendants being held in jail; Ianni was released after her arraignment.
