Two Capital District Reality Check teen program members who graduated this month have been involved with the program for the past three years.
Praaghya Meyyan, who was a senior at Columbia High School has been a Reality Check member since March 2018 and is the 2020 Capital Region Tobacco-Free Youth Ambassador of the Year. She helped plan and participated in an Instagram live conversation about the negative impact of smoking on screen, and presented about how to make the most of social media to raise awareness about the problem of tobacco marketing. She plans to study business at Binghamton University

Last year, high school juniors watched as the senior class of 2020 had their end-of-year celebrations canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. This year they have been eagerly waiting to see if their final days of high school will come with a little more normalcy and celebration - which includes prom.
But despite the state issuing guidelines on how to host a COVID-19 safe event, some schools are opting out of proms - events known for crowded dance floors, packed limousines and lively after parties - and instead are replacing it with some kind of senior event.

CASTLETON, N.Y. â The Tech Valley High School (TVHS) Operating Board voted to appoint the schoolâs next chief academic officer/principal at a special board meeting. Dr. Amy W. Hawrylchak, who has served as the assistant principal of Guilderland High School since 2015, will become the schoolâs next leader, effective Jan. 4.
Capital Region BOCES and Questar III BOCES, which jointly operate the school, conducted a search for a new chief academic officer and principal after former principal Dr. James Niedemeier became the superintendent of Duanesburg Central School District.Â
