Those are the numbers from the Food Bank of Delaware for March 16, 2020 through March 16 of this year. These are unprecedented numbers. These are unprecedented times. In a recent story, Delaware Online staff writer Amanda Parrish highlighted the great work of the food bank, which has been helped with numerous donations and a large number of volunteers. In that story, spokeswoman Kim Turner explained that prior to the pandemic, there were about 121,000 food-insecure Delawareans. That number is now somewhere above 164,000. Food insecure is a nice way of saying people do not know where their next meal is coming from.

Salvation Army fund reaches fifth-highest total raised in its history

For Good. campaign is a continuation of the Needy Family Fund that has raised more than $3.06 million since 1987 during the holidays to assist the Valley’s less fortunate. The campaign is administered by Salvation Army citadels in Milton and Sunbury and sponsored by The Daily Item, Sunbury Broadcasting Corp. and Mifflinburg Bank & Trust. The 1994 Charles B. Degenstein Foundation will also match the first $50,000 in donations.
